Media Review – Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

This debut novel, published by Harper Collins, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, by Gail Honeyman, won the Costa First Book Award for 2017. The book is an example of what is now being termed ‘Up-Lit’ – a supposed new trend which basically seems to refer to books that are hopeful, optimistic and uplifting.

Listen to what the smallVOICE team made of the book at around four minutes in to May’s podcast.

“If someone asks you how you are, you are meant to say FINE. You are not meant to say that you cried yourself to sleep last night because you hadn’t spoken to another person for two consecutive days. FINE is what you say.”
