The film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri has recently secured a number of Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay; three acting nominations, with Frances McDormand up for Best Actress, whilst Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell competing with each other for Best Supporting Actor.
McDormand plays Mildred Hayes, a grieving mother trying to come to terms with the violent and as yet unsolved death of her teenage daughter seven months before. She’s frustrated at what she sees as inactivity by the local police (with Harrelson playing Chief Willoughby) and so decides to rent three billboards near her house, on which she puts up signs demanding to know why they haven’t yet found the murderer of her daughter. Cue the rest of the film.
So, does the film really live up to the hype? Find out what our team made of it at around 9’17 minutes in to February’s podcast.
