Music Guest: Tom Houston

TomH&team_SMALLTom Houston is a songwriter from many different independent bands and genres. He currently writes and sings with davesnewbike, and has just finished a solo CD of recent material produced by Neill MacColl (David Gray). His previous release was an independent album called Filling in the Cracks which he toured in the USA with his band.

Tom worked as a musical director for various theatre companies in the late eighties and early nineties and then took a break to raise a family. He re-emerged with the trio The Ventrilloquists and then davesnewbike who played their first gig at Celtic Connections as a duo, and are now a five piece. He also co-wrote a song with Chris Difford for the One Show in 2009.

It was great to welcome Tom into our studios for our February podcast to perform his two songs, ‘Unspoken’ (at 16.33 mins in the podcast) and ‘The Tin Can and the Flood’ (44.36 mins) – a bit of chat precedes both songs. Tillicoultry’s finest!
