small voice of the month – Leah Sharibu

Margaret’s report this month highlights a small voice which has been stilled … Margaret asks, Can we add our voices?

Leah Sharibu is one of more than one thousand girls who have been kidnapped in Nigeria since 2013 by militant Islamist group Boko Haram. Leah was one of 110 female students who were abducted from a college in Daphci, Yobe state, on 19 February 2018 by a faction of Boko Haram called al Barnawi.

Of the 105 students who survived (five died en route to where they were held) all have now been released, but Boko Haram has not let Leah go. According to one of the other school girls, Leah declined to renounce her Christian faith and this is the reason Boko Haram continues to hold her.

You can listen to Margaret’s report at around 28’55 minutes in to the podcast.
