A Thousand Words – Katie Cross

Dr Katie Cross is a Lecturer in Practical Theology at the University of Aberdeen. Her current research interests include secularism and unbelief, and the phenomenon of ‘believing without belonging’ among Christians. She is also interested in theologies of disaster, trauma and suffering, and the use of qualitative research methods in theology.

The image above is the one that Katie chose to speak to Anne about for our ‘Thousand Words’ feature where a guest shares a picture that is especially meaningful to them. It’s a painting by the Chinese-American artist He Qi, and you can hear what Katie has to say about it at around 32’33 minutes into June’s podcast.

Note on the artist:
He Qi earned a doctorate in religious art from Nanjing Art Institute, having studied medieval art in Hamburg, Germany. He was a professor of Christian Art at Nanjing Theological Seminary, before moving to St. Paul, Minnesota in 2004. Visit his website here.
