Media Review – Festive choices

Anne’s choice is Noel, directed by Chazz Palminteri, and stars Susan Sarandon, Penélope Cruz, Paul Walker, Alan Arkin, Daniel Sunjata and an uncredited Robin Williams.
It’s very Christmassy! Possibly a little sentimental …? And what could be wrong with that.
Bernard and the Genie is Margaret’s recommendation and was a seventy-minute British TV film,first shown on BBC1 in November 1991.
Written by comedy writer Richard Curtis, the comic fantasy (Wikipedia tells us) takes its inspiration from The Book of One Thousand and One Nights and follows Alan Cumming as art dealer Bernard Bottle who is not having a good day.
O Magnum Mysterium is a responsorial chant from the Matins of Christmas and the text tells the story of the birth of Jesus. American composer Morten Lauridsen composed his interpretation in 1994 . A classical-jazz crossover (according to Darren) and, honestly, quite beautiful.
