Moral Mixdown – Doing the Lambeth Conference Walk

Did you hear the one about the comedian and the archbishop? As seen all over social media, comedian and humanist Sandi Toksvig recently tweeted an open letter to Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury. This took him to task for the Anglican church’s stance on LGBTQ issues. The context was the occasion of the 15th Lambeth Conference, a gathering of bishops from the world-wide Anglican Communion. Opinions differ as to the success of the conference, which was both niche AND wide-ranging. The conference was covered in the press overwhelmingly concerning same-sex relationships. The optimistic analysis is that managing to agree to disagree on the matter constituted a significant step forward.
