Podcast Extra – Proof Bakery

We’re not health care professionals … but we can feed people.”

For our small voice of the month round up in April, Margaret reported that Proof Bakery in Coventry has been stepping up to the mark during the current coronavirus crisis, making sure that their bakes and cakes can be made and collected safely. They have also recently started supplying Food Banks. We originally featured this bakery as our small voice of the month in February 2017  – it was set up to train refugees and asylum seekers to bake bread while learning English and other skills.

Anyway, we decided it would be good to get a full update, and find out even more about its background and ethos, so Margaret has recorded a new interview its founder and CEO Chernise Neo. Have a listen to find out more – Chernise describes the background to Proof Bakery, whose workers are refugees and asylum seekers, and tells how they are responding to the current lockdown situation. She also looks to the future and what a new model of working might be.
