As I didn’t actually blame you for the wet weather when I listened last month, I’ll not let you take credit for the glorious sunny evening this month 🙂 Never forget I lived for some years in Manchester compared to which Glasgow is often less rainy. 🙂

Anyhow…

Thank you once again for this month’s podcast. Lots to think about, another book downloaded to my phone, just in time for a month with a lot of travels.

One thing that struck me arose from one of the observations on the novel, namely that we all have something (or some things) that significantly shape us. For me, knowing that there is a strong familial history of alcoholism, and seeing how that has played out in the lives of people I love, certainly affects my attitude towards it. I really appreciated how your reflection recognised that the minimum pricing policy (which, intuitively, I favour) does not, and cannot impact middle-class drinking in the same way as it may among those living in poverty. As you noted (or inferred anyway), loneliness, isolation, desperation etc. don’t respect social class, and are far more complicated to address.

I hope you get lots of ‘hello’ messages and maybe even some encouraging remarks.

enjoyed the book review, Heather the weather reference – spot on! – and just like the name Eleanor Oliphant of course.
I really must go back & hear the moral mixdown on hell, sounds intriguing 🙂
