Jings! It’s another year! Better get on with it. In our January podcast, we review the West End musical ‘Anything Goes‘ as shown on TV at Christmas – it also tours in the UK later in the year; we have music in the form of two fab songs from Iona Fyfe and Aidan Moodie, taken from our very own smallVOICE sessions archive; and for our Moral Mixdown feature we mull over the concept of ‘ubuntu’, highlighted throughout his life by the late Desmond Tutu.

Presented by our crack team of presenters Darren, Anne, and Holly. This podcast was recorded on Thursday 20 January 2022, remotely via Zoom.

Anne’s info about ‘Faithful Welcome’:

Faith in Community (Scotland) is a Glasgow-based charity which works with various faith groups in Scotland, helping them tackle poverty in their communities. They recognise the call of many faith traditions to care for those in need, and help towards providing an inclusive and welcoming country for refugees and asylum seekers.

With this in mind, they have launched a new project named Faithful Welcome, in partnership with Scottish Faith Action for Refugees, which has a focus on helping better equip faith communities to support refugees and asylum seekers in their area.

There will be various ways for faith groups to be involved in Faithful Welcome. Here are just some of them:

• Joining a focus group discussion on needs/gaps/barriers in working with refugees/asylum seekers.
• Tapping into awareness-raising and educational activities and events
• Receiving best practice toolkits
• Receiving bespoke support around capacity building
• Being represented on a digital map
• Being part of a wider network of faith communities, with various networking opportunities.

Happy New Year, Panda, lovely to hear the familiar voices of the Team.

So, who was reading my mind? I have been thinking for a while how I’d love to hear your heaven and hell responses in a different order (it’s virtually always A, H, D) and you did! Brilliant! And good responses too.

Have to admit to a bit of a mind wander during your media review, as I recalled twin girls in the year below me at primary school who used to do their own dance routine to ‘Anything Goes’ – but maybe that’s something about the nature of music that it also links us to times and places in unpredictable/unexpected ways.

I remember many classes at Vicar School inspired by Liberation Theology, including Ubuntu and other helpful ideas from African and Central American contexts.

And of course lovely revisits to live music accompanied by the best scones in Glasgow!

A great way to begin the year. Thank you 😊
