Welcome to our March podcast – in the Media Review, our crack smallVOICE team consider that radio stalwart, the Thought For The Day; Lynn McChlery talks to Anne about her image which is worth ‘A Thousand Words’; roving reporter Margaret brings us a special small VOICE of the Month, asking us to lend our voices too; music is from Hannah Rarity and Calum Morrison; and of course we’ll end it all with the discussion, debate and, indeed discourse that is the Moral Mixdown…. and we can’t escape the topic of Brexit this time.

Thank you. As always lots to reflect on. Really appreciate your ability to tackle complex, challenging topics with grace, nuance and honesty.

When I think about “Pause for Thought” type slots, which are sometimes wonderful and other times infuriating, I recall people like my Mum for whom they were important and helpful… A couple of (relatively) still minutes in a busy day, when she could focus beyond herself. I think that, like “Songs of Praise” there are some, maybe older, folk who really value it.

Didn’t mention the B-word this a.m. It was in intercessions though. I will wait to be called out…😉

As ever, you have entertained, encouraged and exercised my brain. Thank you 😊

Enjoyed the TFTD thought for the day section guys. Kate Bottley’s certainly onto something with her humour about sequins & glitterballs. I listen to a lot of Radio 4 TFTD and catch quite a few of the 5.45am Radio 2 ones too – hot on the heels of R4 5.43am prayer for the day, and teeing up for 5.58 Tweet of the day and the 6am headlines… in short, I’m a pre-dawn radio anorak!
Anyway, some great thoughts here about the news narrative challenging import of the best of them. As Catriona says, ‘nuance’ – we love it! (unlike the Sun).
UKRD, the Pulse stations and up until very recently Sunrise, the Asian station/group… 3 examples of commercial radio which still just about takes short form programming at Christmas & Easter.
