In a PACKED podcast this month we review the new Kevin Macdonald documentary film Life in a Day 2020, Anne’s guest who shares his picture that’s worth a Thousand Words is Baptist minister Peter Atkins. We’re delighted to have the new single from Scottish musician Mairi Campbell, AND (*trumpet fanfare*) Mairi joins us for a chat and sings live, all the way from the Isle of Lismore. We also, of course, chew the metaphorical fat with our Moral Mixdown which this month looks at the complex family dynamics of the royal family, tabloid racism and popular telly. (What could this be?)

I am not sure if I should admit to remembering the 2010 ‘World in a Day’? It’s an interesting premise, and I like the celebration of the mundane it allows. According to my diary, I was on leave (so at home) and the photos on my phone are my cats… this could be any day pretty much in the last year or so.

I am so 100% with Anne on ‘that interview’ and have even studiously avoided the clips. Whilst I wouldn’t identify as either republican or royalist, I don’t have any interest in seeing the interview, so thank you for how you handled it. Now, had they submitted a contribution to the YouTube project…

Thank you for all the thought that goes into research and production.

Hi Catriona, Darren here – for some reason we didn’t see this comment at the time. Thanks, as ever, for popping by to share your thoughts. By now I’ve almost forgotten entirely about THAT interview… odd how news cycles, um, cycle.

I would have guessed you’d have photos of your cats from a year ago, a bit like me with photos of food…

Will pass on your thanks to the production team and also the techies. There’s a lot of editing and post-production these days, splicing three different audio recordings together and then also the time it takes to put everything live on the various streams. Our “as live” recording at the Tron seems a long time ago… things were so much simpler then!

I enjoyed your ‘Life in a day’ and royal interview mixdown especially. I was a shameless live viewer, not least due to having been asked by a BBC Leeds producer to give an audio vox pop straight after – a phrase of which was aired next morning.
The day of the interview broadcast also happened to be the day I proposed to Anna, which I guess added to its memorability!
Anyway intriguing discussion about it – thanks.
Guess I’ll be listening to April’s… in May! Surprise surprise…
