I’ll need to listen to these programmes in stages… but just heard up to the end of The Luminaries review. Insightful and interesting… I liked Anne’s comment about story being hard-wired into us. Winning the Booker at 28, the author makes me feel I should get my skates on with that bestseller I’ve got planned (lol!)… and I also enjoyed the book pitch skit. ‘You had me at fornication…’ a memorable line Darren : )

Just listened to Anne’s interview with Catriona. As I heard Oprah saying to Jenny Murray on Woman’s Hour recently- golly did I just admit to that? 😉 – such insightful interviewing Anne! Moving testimony from Catriona too. One point, having been reading some Colin Urquhart recently about illness and healing, I was intrigued that Catriona said she hadn’t prayed for healing- partly not wishing to be treated as different than anyone else as a minister. This is such a sensitive and personal topic of course, but it did strike me, to cry out to God and ask for any blessing including healing, is surely something any person is free to do, and something Jesus encouraged us to do- ‘Ask, seek, knock..’ etc.Of course the answer may not be certain, but I do believe in the vitality and potential of petitionary prayer.
Not a criticism, but could even be a future discussion topic…

  Am I allowed to say that I half expected someone to comment to this effect? In the confines of a short interview we could not explore this, or anything else in any detail.
  
  Firstly, I firmly believe in prayer, and consider intercessionary prayer is a key part of both public and private worship. I know that many people across the entire UK and beyond were praying for me, and that was a tremendous source of comfort and blessing. I am completely sure that God heard and answered those prayers.
  
  I guess part of my concern about prayer for healing is that sometimes when we say ‘healing’ what we mean is ‘physical cure of a person we love and do not want to lose’ and that may not accord with God’s will (though of course it may).
  
  I did pray for the strength to face each day; I did tell God more than a few times that I did not want to die, but I stand by my decision that I did not feel it appropriate to ask God to grant me physical healing (either miraculously or via the work of medical professionals). I would not presume to impose that view on anyone else, nor would I seek to dissuade anyone from praying for their own physical healing if that was important to them.
  
  As you say, a complex topic – no criticism detected; surely part of the purpose to prompt thought and conversation. I would be happy to see a future discussion on this topic.
